Cruising in his shiny almost brand-new Daytona Violet 3series BMW along the N3 freeway from Durban to Johannesburg on that hot African summer afternoon of 1998, Isaac Lakhi felt invincible. After all, why shouldn’t he ? His life was in 6th gear. At 22, he was an Entrepreneur running a multi-million Dollar manufacturing outfit, employing 25 people. He had just married a beauty queen 5 weeks earlier, and bought a swish townhouse on the leafy Houghton Drive in the posh suburb of Houghton. As rapidly as his empire was mushrooming, even faster was his ego flourishing ! From zero to hero overnight; his future looked destined for greatness !
But suddenly, it all came to an abrupt hault. His sports car rolled, and rolled and rolled. Cops found him on the side of the road in an unconscious state. Airbags failed to deploy. As medics wheeled him off the chopper into the emergency room, their gloomy faces mirrored the future that awaited Lakhi. Either gloomy and dark, or maybe, even the end ~ Epilogue from “You the Man !” by Isaac Lakhi
Having survived the car crash that left him with an 80% brain disability, Lakhi went on to read for an Postgraduate degree in Investments, worked 10 years at the world’s biggest corporations, from Johannesburg to London, and built a family. In managing his disability, Lakhi realised that it was not only him that struggled with lifes challenges, and figured that the worlds peoples are bleeding, and that applying plaster and bandage was no longer a sustainable long term solution.
Inspired by his adversities that led to him becoming a Motivational & Public Speaker; Lakhi’s impressive portfolio includes:
• Represented the worlds most innovative Bank, First National Bank, thrice at various Parliamentary Committees on Economic Development;
• As a seasoned Program Director; he has directed events with key-note addresses by distinguished personalities including Raymond Ackerman and Ahmed Kathrada;
• He has inspired audiences, speaking of his riveting and captivating 2 near death experiences, in conjunction with other great speakers like renowned Orator Edris Khamissa, and retired Proteas cricketer Jack Manack.
Lakhi has appeared several times on radio, and is a regular guest speaker at schools. As part of “unlock a million young minds vision 2025”; he regularly inspires and motivates school kids, to leverage the power of their minds, with the intent of growing them into Entrepreneurs, Leaders and Innovators.
Lakhi is the retired Chairman of The Enablis Khula Loan Fund that facilitated the creation of 5000+ jobs through strategic investments in high growth start-up businesses.
Lakhi is best-selling author of “You the Man”. It is a cathartic epistle of the triumph of the human spirit, and how he turned adversity into opportunity.
Lakhi is married to Zeenith and has 2 sons. He has lived in London and Cape Town.
